A walk through the village

This tree is now attributed to the era of King Henri IV, making it about 400 years old, give or take. Originally, this sign was machine printed, and attributed the age to the Napoleonic Era. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

This old tree is the centerpiece of our sleepy village—in some respects more so than the 12th century chapel, the 14th century inn, or the houses surrounding the square, some of which are as old as the chapel, and all are older than the tree. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

Our dear friends are among the very few year-round permanent residents. There is always the clutter of Paule's continual gardening in the area in front of their kitchen door. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

This old chapel was private property, but has been acquired, or leased, by the town as an exhibition space. The village is trying to revive what had been a life-long association with the arts. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

This vine keeps growing and growing. Behind it is an old unused access to the rear of one of the old houses. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

Barely visible through the stalks is the backyard of one of the larger, more luxe residences on the west side of the village, overlooking the plain, and restored Chateau Barras. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

The crop for 2007 is almost ready for harvest, which will be done about the middle of October. This is part of an arbor in someone's back yard. I'm no oenologist, so I cannot say what sort of grapes these are. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

Here is the backyard behind and below Jean-Jacque and Paule's house. It is actually land owned by the town. However it's Paule who keeps it looking this way. The top of the wall is actually a barrier for their fourth floor terrace, with a spectacular view for sunsets and Mont Ste.-Victoire ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

Someone's backyard. This is typical. Looking west, in the upper left is Mont Ste.-Victoire about 30-40 Km away. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

This fence appeared to be new, since our last visit three months before. Obviously it's cast iron and steel. I have no idea what the purple-leaved shrub is behind it. I just shoot 'em. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.

The shadows get long in the fall around 3pm. The sun won't set until after eight, but it is Fall officially, and the sun is already well south. ©2007, Howard Dinin. All rights reserved.
